Exercise Prescription & Programming

Any Literature on POTS and upper body exercises

ACSM's GETP 12 edition --pp. 301-304; good place to start.

This article is cited by the ACSM GETP:

Bryarly M, Phillips LT, Fu Q, Vernino S, Levine BD. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome: JACC Focus Seminar. J Am Coll Cardiol. 2019 Mar 19;73(10):1207-1228.

The supplement to this article contains a detailed exercise program, including a calendar with progressions. Here is the link:

I could be mistaken, but I think the newest of edition of ACSMs GETP has a section on POTs. Nonetheless, while an arm ergometer can still be slightly beneficial, I am not the biggest fan, and I cannot imagine it would make any significant change in someone with POTS and their symptoms. I would focus on strength training with an emphasis on the lower body, along with the regular prescription of aerobic training.

Same as Title above.

I'm looking for literature on exercise plans for individuals with POTS and if there is a significant change when exercising the upper body (i.e Arm Ergometer)

Thank you
