BRIEF SUMMARY
Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs are effective at increasing physical activity levels on days patients attend exercise sessions. However, evidence has demonstrated that patients accumulate significantly less physical activity time on non-CR days. Although attending CR 2-3 days per week contributes to increases in cardiorespiratory fitness, physical function and quality of life, patients are still encouraged to be active on most days of the week for further benefit. Many strategies have been shown to increasing physical activity levels on non-CR days in patient cohorts, but taking a "one size fits all approach" may not be appropriate for all patients. This webinar will review evidence based strategies of facilitating the adoption of a physically active lifestyle that extends beyond CR sessions and will provide guidance on individualizing strategies relative to the patient's interests and needs.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Identify methods of quantifying physical activity levels in cardiac rehabilitation participants
2. Understand the strengths and weaknesses of available tools to assess physical activity
3. Understand different strategies of promoting a physically active lifestyle
4. Determine appropriate strategies of individualizing physical activity interventions.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Cemal Ozemek, PhD is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has extensive experience working in clinical settings that provide exercise testing and lifestyle interventions to cardiac, pulmonary, bariatric surgery and cancer patients as well as healthy older adults. Dr. Ozemek's research interests focus on studying the effects of physical activity and exercise on cardiovascular function in healthy and diseased populations; exploring interventions that promote regular physical activity participation and investigating strategies that enhance the delivery of cardiac rehabilitation with the aim of improving patient outcomes.
